Stuart S. Sprague Photograph Collection

The Stuart S. Sprague Photograph Collection consists of digitally scanned photographs found in the Stuart Seely Sprague Collection housed in the Special Collections & Archives Department of Camden-Carroll Library at Morehead State University. The collection contains photographs acquired by Sprague during his research for a pictorial book on Eastern Kentucky in the early 1980s. The digital images are organized alphabetically by name of county.

Stuart Seely Sprague was born on June 24, 1937 in Norwalk, Connecticut. Sprague spent his undergraduate and graduate career studying history at Yale University before receiving a Ph.D. in history from New York University. He served as a professor in history at Morehead State University from 1968 to 1995. His areas of concentration included Appalachian history and African American studies. Sprague published dozens of journal articles and several books on various historical topics, including the book, Eastern Kentucky, A Pictorial History. He died on February 22, 2002 at Clearfield, Kentucky.
