Description

Soldiers at Camp Nelson could cross into Garrard County by means of this 200-foot bridge. The openings are quite visible in this Civil War view. Two attempts were made by Confederates to fire the bridge during the war - both failed. What the Confederates failed to do, an overloaded truck achieved in 1926, forcing closure of the bridge. The bridge was razed in October 1933.

Photo taken circa 1861-64.
