Abstract

Aside from his groundbreaking work in initiating and overseeing the first (and ongoing) systematically-detailed field investigations into the regional speech of America, that is, the LAUSACA project, one of the most significant accomplishments of Hans Kurath is the recognition of a distinct Midland dialect of American English.
