Dolly Madison (1768-1849) was married to the fourth President of United States, James Madison (1751-1836). She defined the role and responsibilities of the First Lady of the United States. She was involved with many charities and social justice organizations. She also decorated the executive mansion and helped furnish the newly constructed White House.
