St. Elmo was also called Erasmus of Formia. He is the patron saint of sailors and abdominal pain. He fled to Mt Lebanon while emperors Diocletian and Maximian Hercules were persecuting Christians. An angel told him to return. On his way back he confessed his faith to some soldiers, who took him to trial before Emperor Diocletian. He was then tortured but the angel helped him escape. He was beaten, whipped, set on fire, and coated with pitch. He performed miracles after his escape, including causing idols to fall and temples to catch on fire.
