The James Still World War II Collection consists of correspondence, photographs and printed items retained by Kentucky author and poet James Still during the Second World War. Sergeant Still served in the United States Army in East Africa and the Middle East from the summer of 1942 to September of 1945. He was a member of the Headquarters & Headquarters Squadron of the 8th Air Depot Group that was stationed near Accra, Gold Coast, British West Africa (presently Ghana).

The bulk of the collection are letters written to James Still by family, friends and literary colleagues from December of 1941 to December of 1945. The letters offer a unique viewpoint of the Eastern Kentucky homefront during the Second World War.
