The Richmond Columned Courthouse was built in 1850. However, it was a WPA project, as well.
The Works Progress Administration (WPA) was part of the American New Deal agency to provide employment in low-income areas, such as the Appalachian area. Most WPA projects were building construction and road work. The WPA ran from 1935-1943. Photo circa 1935-43.
