Description
This Episcopal Church is the Church of the Ascension in Frankfort, Franklin County, Kentucky. The church was founded in January 1836 after Rt. Rev. Benjamin B. Smith was given a loan by the New York City Church of the Ascension to build the church. The current built was erected in 1850. During the Civil War, the church aided the community by allowing orphans to stay in the church and by offering education to children. Photo circa 1900.
