Roger William Barbour, born April 5, 1919, was a college professor, naturalist and zoologist from Morehead, Kentucky. He graduated from Morehead State Teachers College (presently Morehead State University) in 1938 with a bachelor’s degree in biology before completing a master’s degree at Cornell University in 1939. After graduation, Barbour began his teaching career at Morehead State. He later taught at Western Kentucky State Teachers College (presently Western Kentucky State University) and at the University of Kentucky in the Zoology Department from 1950 to 1984. He is best known for his photographic work and research on various types of animals including fish, reptiles, amphibians and mammals along with several series on plant life native to the State of Kentucky. He wrote and co-wrote several books which chronicle nearly every aspect of natural life in Kentucky. Dr. Barbour died on August 26, 1993.
