Robert M. Rennick Manuscript Collection consists of over 33,000 scanned typescripts and 3x5 index cards defining the origins of community and county names in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Some of the research and information was later published in books Rennick authored, such as Kentucky Place Names and From Red Hot to Monkey's Eyebrow: Unusual Kentucky Place Names. The majority of this collection, however, was not included in either book. The collection represents Professor Rennick's thirty year quest to document the place names of every community in Kentucky.
The alphabetical list of community names represents the initial draft of the manuscript that eventually became the book Kentucky Place Names. The community names by county were the 3x5 research note cards created by Rennick during his thirty years of research on locating place names.
