The History Department of Morehead State University, in collaboration with the National Park Service, conducted an archaeological recovery project in the spring of 2015 at the Petersburg National Battlefield. The project consisted of six public history students supervised by Dr. Adrian Mandzy, professor of history at Morehead State University, from March 16 to 20, 2015. The recovery team uncovered over 750 artifacts which included numerous minnie balls, musket balls, artillery shell fragments and miscellaneous other artifacts.
