Abstract
Kay Justice performed mountain ballads, bluegrass, gospel, and shape note hymns, while Ginny Hawker sang early bluegrass, gospel songs, and the unaccompanied hymns of the Primitive Baptist Church. They joined their musical talents in 1986 during the Augusta Heritage Workshops in Elkins, West Virginia.
They are both long-time practitioners of Appalachian old-time music. Hawker was influenced by the Carter Family. She joined with Justice to create several albums in tribute to the Carter's. The two women teach vocal music in Elkins. In the 1980's Justice began singing, recording and touring extensively with Hawker.
