Metropolitan Museum of Art Cast Collection

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Cast Collection at Morehead State University consists of 31 plaster casts of ancient works of art from Ancient Greece, Rome and the Near East. Included with the collection are works from the Renaissance period.

In January of 1978, Bill Booth requested permission from Morehead State University President Morris Norfleet to receive casts of sculptures from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The original pieces were on display in the museum during the years of 1875 to 1930. After 40 years of storage the replicas were donated to the Camden-Carroll Library. The original loan agreement included 33 replicas. The art arrived at the Claypool-Young Art Building for cleaning and restoration in May of 1978. By 1984 the art was moved to the library for permanent display. In December of 2009, the library received a letter from the Metropolitan Museum of Art offering to permanently gift 18 of the pieces.
