Pandora's Box is a Greek myth circa. 700 BC. According to the myth, the box (which was originally a jar) was a gift from the gods to Pandora as she was the first human woman on Earth. She was told not to open it, but curiosity got the better of her and she did. The jar contained all the evils of the world. They were released when she opened the lid. Pandora managed to close the lid trapping the last thing inside: hope.
The term Pandora's Box has come to mean a source of great troubles or a present that seems good but is actually a curse.
