There are two possible references - the fruit itself or the book by Mark Twain. The huckleberries are a fruit that can be bright red, blue, or even dark purple. The red berries are tart while the blue and purple berries are sweet. They grow around the Pacific Northwest area of the United States.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published in the US in 1885. Huckleberry is a rambunctious and rebellious boy who sails down the Mississippi River to escape social pressure for him to behave properly and his abusive father. Huckleberry Finn first appeared in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876). Both books are written by Mark Twain.
