Abandoned by Confederate troops in December 1864, a survey of the Gibson Battery by Union forces noted that the Point was armed with two 8-inch siege howitzers and two 32-pounder cannons. Archaeological investigations conducted in March 2025 confirmed the deployment of artillery at the Battery.
