Abstract
A documentary film on Grundy, Virginia writer Lee Smith. The film explores how Smith's novels and short stories provide insight into the people and culture of Appalachia. She identifies her literary influences and includes readings of "Black Mountain Breakdown," "The Devil's Dream," "Oral History," "Salvation," "Saving Grace," and "Fair and Tender Ladies." Also features interviews with Smith's family, students and friends. Produced by Kentucky Educational Television in 1996.
