Angels Singing and Playing Musical Instruments - Left Panel
One of ten bronze relief panels of the frontal of the High Altar in the church of Sant' Antonio, Padua 1446-1450, by Donatello, 1386-1466. Donatello was the first major sculptor of the Renaissance. His works displayed on the high altar reflects a provincial style. Padua was a city in love with antiquity. With Donatello's increasing creativity and naturalism he created an unreal light rising from the base-relief glorifying human emotions. Before casting the pieces in bronze, wax models were used.
